You can watch a video about how to collect your sample

  1. Fill out your information at color.com/test/activate. The lab cannot process your sample without this step!

  2. Before collecting your sample, wash your hands thoroughly for 20 seconds and dry them well.

  3. Get all the pieces of the kit and place them in front of you. Read all of the instructions so you know what to expect.

  4. Remove the collection device from its packaging.

Note: If your upper arm has a lot of hair, it might be hard for the device to stick. For best results, shave hair.

  5. Remove the heat pack from its package and shake it to activate. It will take a few minutes to warm up.

  6. Twist and remove the cap of the tube. Keep the cap nearby.

  7. Press the tube into the device until it’s snug.

Note: Make sure the fill lines are facing the same way as the red button so that you’ll be able to see them in a mirror when the device is on your arm.

  8. Remove the clear plastic cover that’s on the red button.

Note: You may want to open the bandage so that it will be ready for you when you are done with the collection.

  9. Shake your arm up and down 5 times. Place the heat pack on your upper arm for 2 minutes. Your arm should be warm to the touch.

Don’t skip this step! Moving the arm and warming the skin will increase the blood flow.

  10. Clean your upper arm with the alcohol wipe. Allow it to dry.

  11. Peel the tab off the device. Stick the device firmly to your upper arm, where you warmed it up. Let your arm hang straight down at your side.

Do not rest it on a table.

  12. With two fingers, firmly press the red button once until it clicks, and then release.

Note: You only need to press the button once. You may not feel anything. The device contains a small needle that makes a nick in your arm and then retracts.

  13. Set a timer for 5 minutes.

Note: Don’t worry if blood does not appear immediately. It may take 1-2 minutes.

  14. Remove the device after 5 minutes. If the blood reaches the top fill line before 5 minutes, remove it. Even if blood hasn’t reached the top fill line after 5 minutes, remove it.

Note: You won’t feel anything except the sticker peeling away. You’ll see a slight nick in your skin.

  15. Carefully remove the tube from the device with a slight twist and pull down.

You can throw away the collection device in your trash.

  16. Snap the cap fully onto the tube.

  17. Use the gauze pad to clean your arm. Put the bandage on.

  18. Mix the blood in the tube carefully. Tap the bottom of the tube gently on the table. Then tap the top of the tube gently on the table. Repeat this 10 times.

Note: Tapping and inverting is important so that the blood moves in the tube. Do not shake vigorously.

  19. Put the collection tube in the biohazard bag. Seal the bag.

Note: The tube should go inside the rigid plastic insert in the biohazard bag.

  20. Put the biohazard bag in the return shipping bag. Seal the bag.

  21. Drop your sample at a USPS mailbox or post office.

Note: Samples should be put in a mailbox mailed to the laboratory within 24 hours of collection.

Not intended for more than one use. Discard the entire device after use.

Keep out of reach of children.
